Dolores F. Moore

Dolores J. Moore (March 2, 1930 - April 21, 2007) was a lifelong educator and civil rights leader, best known for her dedication to education, her efforts to free the Wilmington Ten, and her outstanding leadership of her local branch of the NAACP. She spent much of her life advocating for quality education for Black and other underserved students.

She once said that "There is something each individual can do to make a difference in the world. We should all aspire to leave the world better than we found it". Mrs. Moore spent her entire life trying to make the world a better place. She believed that education is the gateway to freedom. The Wilmington Ten Foundation for Social Justice, Inc. has totally embraced this important legacy. To further that legacy we have established the Dolores F. Moore Scholarship Fund (DFMSF).

Founded in 2014, the Dolores F. Moore Scholarship Fund will provide scholarships to underserved students, as well as mentoring and related support services. The DFMSF seeks to assist in giving students the tools they need to apply to college, do well in their course work, graduate, qualify for a profession, excel, mentor, make a difference in the world, and uplift the many generations to come.

Our goal is to strive to make college education a top priority for Blacks or other underserved children, in Wilmington, N.C, and across this great nation. We plan to vigorously mobilize our communities to proactively advance our mission. For more information about the Dolores F.
