“Injustice Anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The Wilmington Ten Foundation, Incorporated was founded on the belief in the dignity and worth of ALL human beings. The foundation supports human rights, self worth, democracy and freedom.
The Wilmington Ten Foundation releases the following statement to express their support of collective outrage, due to the dehumanization and recent public murder of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and countless others known, and unknown whose lives have been taken due to police brutality, and racists acts of crime committed by law enforcement in this country.
Racial hatred in this country spans over 400 years. We are in a hard and defining time of change. Our voices must be heard not only during protest, but by local, state and federal governing officials and policymakers. Our voices must be heard at the ballot box. We will NO LONGER allow you to steal our vote, and not protect us, represent us, or ignore us.
· WE STAND against government sanctioned terror.
· WE STAND in solidarity with peaceful protestors all over this nation and world.
· WE STAND for reform of race based neutral policies that disallow us our “inalienable rights to life and the pursuit of happiness”.
· WE STAND for race forward equitable policies that are inclusive of ALL, regardless of race, creed or color.
· WE STAND for Police Reform and Accountability.
· WE STAND for an AGENDA that reflects the most common concerns in the black community.
· WE STAND against hopelessness and despair.
While we know that we cannot mitigate and dismantle over 400 years of racial hatred and practice overnight, we do believe that the time is past due for us to organize and cultivate different, diverse partnerships to address the historic and systemic racism that has for over 400 years been like a nightmare, and an infectious insidious disease targeting blacks and other people of color.
We know that black people are angry, hurt, and tired, but still brilliant and powerful. They have been working tirelessly for years trying to disrupt the cycle of maltreatment, racial hatred and bigotry towards blacks. Now is the time to join together to build a better world. WE SEEK EQUAL JUSTICE. WE SEEK EQUALITY. WE SEEK “inalienable rights to life and the pursuit of happiness. WE SEEK PEACE!
Let us not forget the formidable COVID – 19 while we are crying out for JUSTICE. The coronavirus has been and still is a sad milestone, that is most impactful on the black community, and on people of color. We urge you to continue to wear your mask, wash your hands, wait six (6) feet apart, and social distance. Please Stay Safe, and Stay Healthy.
Yours In The Struggle,
